Lauren Holstein

Lauren Barri Holstein is a somatic healer, movement educator, dancer, researcher, and founder of The Kora. Her work explores the relationship between the body, nervous system, healing, expression and embodied agency. She works with the body as a place where physical experience, emotion, memory and nervous-system responses meet, with a particular focus on trauma, consent, choice and reclaiming a sense of agency in our own bodies and lives. She has spent over 20 years working within rehabilitative movement and somatic practice, alongside 15 years facilitating embodied feminist work in universities and arts institutions across the UK and Europe. Her teaching integrates movement, nervous system awareness, meditation, reflection and expressive somatic practice. It is informed by both professional training and lived experience, and by a deep interest in how our bodies are shaped not only by our individual histories, but by the cultures and systems we live within. Lauren holds a PhD in Contemporary Feminism and Embodiment from Queen Mary University of London and originally trained as a rehabilitative Pilates teacher at the Kane School in New York. At the heart of Lauren’s work is a belief in the transformative power of reconnecting with our own voice, choice and agency, and finding our way back to a deeper sense of trust in ourselves.
